Theatre - a gregarious form that combines arts, dance, music, literature to create masterpieces that fire away the imagination of the audience.  At the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival watch all kinds of theatre…. tragedy, comic humour. Veterans and amateur directors put together plays across many genres and languages.

Our thematic for the 2014 festival is ‘RANG BARAAT’.

“Unselfed” is a devised performance piece which explores subjective ideas and propositions of parallel/multiple selves, and experiences of being rendered a non-self. The piece has been developed through a collaboration between contemporary dancers and theatre performers in search of hybrid contemporary idiom.

Unselfed questions what it means to ‘be whole’, what we lose when we lose the ability to create, how we stand witness to the many violences we commit on ourselves and how far we need to journey in order to find a space of integration.

Amogh Ranadive: Amogh Ranadive is a stand up comic and a television writer. Being Maharashtrian, his hobbies include gulping down vada pavs and indulging in violence against innocent North Indian cabbies. Sorry, sorry. Don't want you to get the wrong impression. He actually hates vada pav, it gives him acidity. The Times of India describes him as a 'nobody', and his mother describes him as a 'clean your damn room.'

Karunesh Talwar: He is a comedian and therefore, not a fan of gainful employment. Currently based in Mumbai, he performs regularly at venues across the country. He's a writer and performer for Weirdass Comedy, India's foremost comedy consultancy, and has opened multiple times for Vir Das on his recent Resentury tour. He also writes for television because integrity is nice but money is better. Also, he's roughly 1/7 billionth the population of the world.

“Naatak Nahi” is a political satire inspired by the socio-political turbulence based on casts-ism, woman emancipation, elections and overall economical crisis. The play shows real life incidents and does not take any dramatic liberty. It is a poignant play through the eyes of 2 beggars, who also represent the common man, they take you to various rib-tickling situations and at the end leave you with a strong message.
