Kala ghoda Art Festival 2014

Urban Design & Architecture

Liquid architecture. It's like jazz - you improvise, you work together, you play off each other, you make something, they make something. And I think it's a way of - for me, it's a way of trying to understand the city, and what might happen in the city.
-Frank Gehry

The new Urban Design and Architecture section offers an artistic and yet analytic approach to this year’s festival theme ‘Momentum’. The program provides both a broad, humanistic perspective on the physical aspects of our city, and exposure to future architects, city planners, public administrators, and writers on urban problems and solutions.

Urban design is about making connections between people and places, movement and urban form, nature and the built fabric. It draws together the many strands of place-making, environmental stewardship, social equity and economic viability into the creation of places with distinct beauty and identity. It is derived from but transcends planning and transportation policy, architectural design, development economics, engineering and landscape. It creates a vision for an area and then deploys the resources and skills needed to bring the vision to life.

Our thematic for this new section is  ‘MOVE MUMBAI’... we explore opinions on mobility, visuals on movement and master plans and ideas that attempt to make sense of a city always on the move.
